The Section of Earth and Environmental Sciences, in collaboration with the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Science, is pleased to invite you to a seminar by Prof. Andy Woods on the topic of "The Energy Transition".

In this seminar, Prof. Woods will explore various challenges and solutions in the energy transition, with a particular focus on carbon capture and storage. The discussion will cover themes such as:

  • The environmental and social challenges of deep-sea mining and mineral recovery.
  • Innovative methods for subsurface carbon storage and hydrogen storage.
  • Strategies for enhancing energy efficiency and sustainable building practices.

Following the seminar, a round table discussion will provide an opportunity to delve deeper into topics related to the energy transition, including estimates of the minerals required for renewable energy production and the associated geological and social challenges. The round table will feature :

  • Honorary Professor Lluis Fontboté
  • Prof. Martin Patel
  • Dr. Ariadna Fossas Tenas

The round table will also address several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs #1, #7, #8, #11, #13, #14), highlighting their critical importance to the energy transition.
