New collaboration between UNIGE and INGEMMET
The group of Physical Volcanology and Geological Risk of the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Geneva, led by Prof Costanza Bonadonna has started a collaboration with the volcanic observatory INGEMMET of Arequipa (Peru) including a training in Arequipa on the characterization of explosive eruptions and the use of tephra dispersal models for the compilation of hazard assessments and a scientific cooperation on the monitoring of Sabancaya volcano whose activity has significantly increased after 2016. Here scientists of the university of Geneva are working on the characterization of eruptive plumes of Sabancaya with high definition and thermal cameras.
