40Ar/ 39Ar Geochronology:
Theory, Techniques, and Applications
9 - 11 April, 1997
The 40Ar/39Ar method is a versatile and
powerful geochronometer which has been used to date such diverse
materials as lunar and terrestrial rocks more than
4 billion years old and Holocene tephra. In order to promote a greater awareness of the principles, analytical techniques, and utility of 40Ar/39Ar geochronology
we have organized a course in which three distinguished researchers
will present lectures on basic topics and will develop examples
of applications such as calibration of the geologic time scale,
interpreting the deformational and thermal histories of metamorphic
rocks, and dating of bolide impacts on the Earth and Moon.
