Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
The carnism of some members of animal rights organizations is mentioned in the Journal of Zoöphily; for example, Mary F. Lovell's article “The Point of View.” Vol. XXV. 3 (March 1916) in which she answers the accusation that the Society does not engage with the cruelties of the slaughterhouse:
“The present writer, who has eaten no meat for over twenty-two years, has strongly denounced in the JOURNAL, repeatedly, also elsewhere, the barbarities of animal killing in slaughter-houses. … Beside the writer, there are several other members of the Women's Pennsylvania S.P.C.A. who do not eat meat, notably the President, Mrs. White” (35).
