The Water-Cure Journal [and Herald of Reforms, Devoted to Physiology, Hydropathy and the Laws of Life]. Ed. Joel Shew; F. D. Peirson; Russell Thacher Trall. New York: Fowler & Wells, 1843-1914.

The Water-Cure Journal was first published in 1845 by Joel Shew, a physician and advocate of hydropathy. The journal featured articles, case studies, and letters from individuals who had experienced the benefits of hydrotherapy as well as the associated lifestyle that stressed exercise, fresh air, hygiene, avoidance of stimulants like alcohol, tobacco, and spices, and a diet based on natural, unprocessed plant foods.

"This was originally primarily a medical journal but under the influence of Fowler & Wells, which began publishing the journal in 1846 with volume 3, it came to include Dietetics, Exercise, Clothing, Amusements, and those Laws which govern Life and Health, together with the ideas on universal reform that characterized the Fowlers. Orson Fowler retired to Boston in 1863, and Trall took over the publication at the beginning of the same year, renaming the journal the Herald of Health but continuing the volume numbering of the original.
