Uni Bastions, Iconic Building
2027 - The renovation of Uni Bastions enhances the iconic building of the University, as well as one of the architectural gems of the City and Canton of Geneva, built in the 19th century. This project also provides an opportunity for modern compliance and adaptation of teaching and research spaces to the current and future needs of the community.
The first phase of the works concluded on 8 August 2022 with the public opening of the Espace Jura after four years of construction. Its design took into consideration the heritage character of the building, current energy, environmental, and safety standards, as well as the input of the student community for the choice of furniture. The acoustically designed ergonomic chairs, adjustable tablets, and layout of the mezzanines contribute to comfort and concentration. Additionally, the wooden shelving blends in with the original architecture of the building. The completion of the central building works is scheduled for 2027.
