In his presentation, Professor Elroy Dimson will examine what is the best way for shareholders to engage with companies on social and environmental issues. He will provide evidence on what works best: acting alone, cooperating with others, or following a leader (and if so, who should be the leader of choice). During his talk, Professor Krueger will first propose a novel way of measuring the sustainability footprint (or “impact”) of institutional investors. He will next examine the (causal) relationship between higher sustainability and institutional portfolios’ risk-adjusted performance using exogenous shocks to investor sustainability induced by natural disasters. Both talks will be followed by a Panel discussion.
