Research Center for Statistics

Statistics is a growing area of research and its fields of application are also on the rise, in particular with the emergence of the “Big Data” phenomenon. Public, private, and academic sectors alike are constantly seeking data, methods, and models, which will allow them to make more informed decisions, or draw conclusions in uncertain scenarios. On the one side, there is a need to aggregate and understand the data, thereby selecting the most appropriate techniques for their analysis. On the other side, it is of increasing importance for these techniques to be as accurate as possible to reduce risks in the decision-making process or research-based conclusions.

The members of the Research Center for Statistics have been developing fundamental statistical research over the years and are continuing to actively contribute to the creation and improvement of statistical methods and techniques. They do so by constantly bringing forward numerous international collaborations, which deliver benefits in terms of the quality and importance of their research activities.

The Research Center for Statistics was officially created on January 1, 2011.
