- Location
- Liverpool airport is not
big and that is why it is a destination for low cost companies such as
Easyjet. Many incoming students fly to Manchester and then they take a
train for a two-hour ride.
The Liverpool region, called Merseyside, extends around the river that
goes through it. The town is ideally situated for excursions to
Manchester, Chester, Wales and Northern Ireland.

in Wales and in Chester
- You
may feel lost...
- Never
trust streets panels! It seems that some people like to move them...
Instead ask the people you cross on the road, they are usually very
nice to foreigners! The first day it is better for you to go to the
tourist information office that is located at the terminus of the bus
lines in the city centre; there you can find many answers!
- Accommodations
- It is
very easy to find cheap accommodations in Liverpool, except for rooms
on the University campus that are difficult to rent for only one
semester. You can find many offers in the University housing office,
where some students help and advise you. Afterwards you have to phone
the landlord and visit the house. Do not worry if he says that there is
a lot of demand and that you have to decide quickly if you want to take
the room or not, usually it is not true. Always think it over before
making up your mind.
Be careful! Have a good look at the offer before signing a contract,
because the quality of the flats is not always first-rate!

It is the least safest area in Liverpool, but it is not so
bad if you live near the border to the city centre. There is a big
student community because prices are very cheap.

- Transportation
- Forget
the timetables! You will quickly learn to leave home very early... In
the winter a season ticket is necessary because of the weather.
- Healthcare
- It is
typical for the international students, not used to the English rain,
to need to see a doctor in mid-November. Fortunately you can use Uni's
free medical service!
- Public
works
- The huge
number of construction and building sites in the whole town is
astonishing. In fact, Liverpool will be the European Capital of Culture
in 2008 and meanwhile you can expect many improvements.
