Our research projects focus on the molecular mechanisms of synaptic network remodelling and synaptogenesis in organotypic hippocampal slice cultures. Main goals include:
To understand how synaptic function affect the organization of the synapse, the postsynaptic density (PSD), the morphology of dendritic spines.
To understand whether and how neuronal activity modifies the network of excitatory synaptic connections.

To identify the molecular mechanisms controlling presynaptic filopodia formation, spine and synapse formation with a special focus on synaptic proteins and adhesion molecules.
To understand how genes involved in mental retardation affect development of synaptic networks and properties of synaptic plasticity both in vitro and in vivo.
To understand how synaptic plasticity contributes to brain repair.
