1. Performance of CT and MRI in the pretherapeutic evaluation of laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancer. Comparison with whole- organ histologic slices. Development and validation of new diagnostic criteria. Evaluation of sensitivity, specificity, predictive values, ROC curves for the accepted criteria and for the new diagnostic criteria. Currently submitted for review. Collaboration with Professor Peter Zbären, University Hospital Berne, and Professor Jan Casselman, St Jan Hospital Bruges.

2. Performance of CT and MRI in the pretherapeutic evaluation of recurrent laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancer after previous irradiation. Comparison with whole- organ histologic slices. Evaluation of sensitivity, specificity, predictive values, ROC curves for the accepted criteria and for the new diagnostic criteria. Currently submitted.

3. Performance of MR- sialography in the evaluation of pathologic conditions of the salivary ducts. Development of a new MR sequence and comparison with sialendoscopy. Evaluation of the clinical impact. Currently in the phase of manuscript preparation .

4. Evaluation of dysphagia by DVD- fluoroscopy in patients who have undergone radiation therapy for a head and neck carcinoma. Evaluation of deglutiotion disoprders and correlation of the radiological results with the quality of life of the patients. Currently, in the phase of manuscript preparation.

5. Evaluation of swallowing disorders in patients with neurological diseases. Correlation between the different types of swallowing disorders and lesion location. Currently, in the phase of data acquisition.

6. Evaluation of the performance of MRI in the assessment of osteoradionecrosis in patients successfully treated with radiation therapy for a squamous cell carcinoma of the upper aerodigestive tract. Currently in the phase of data acquisition.

7. Evaluation of the performance of multislice CT with 3D reconstructions in the assessment of patiens with NOMA and the impact on preoperative planning. Collaboration with Dr. Brigitte Pittet, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Currently in the phase of manuscript preparation.

 Research projects  (co- investigator):

Detection of recurrent squamous cell carcinoma by MRI and PET. Comparison of the results of MRI, PET and clinical evaluation according to a predefined follow-up protocol. Evaluation of sensitivity, specificity, predictive values, ROC curves for MRI, PET and clinical evaluation. Currently, in the phase of data analysis.
