Biography

Marco Civico is a researcher in language policy and the economics of multilingualism at the Economics, Languages and Education Research Group (ELF) of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting (FTI) at the University of Geneva, where he also serves as a lecturer. His work focuses on the relationship between linguistic diversity, public policy, and economics, as well as on the development of quantitative tools to measure and model linguistic diversity in complex societies.

An economist and statistician by training, he holds a PhD in Multilingual Communication Management (University of Geneva, 2020). He previously collaborated in the European project MIME (Mobility and Inclusion in Multilingual Europe) and is currently involved in several research projects, including RAMAL (Representations, Attitudes and Motivations in the Federal Administration) and GLAD (Governance of Linguistic Diversity). He also teaches at the University of Turin as a Visiting Professor. His research interests include the application of statistical and network-modelling methods to the study of linguistic dynamics and multilingualism policies.
