Salim Hirèche has a multidisciplinary academic background, with training in mathematical and computer sciences, in literature and philosophy, in economic, social and political sciences, as well as in languages and translation, mostly at the University of Geneva.

His doctoral and postdoctoral research activities have been mainly in theoretical philosophy (philosophy of science, epistemology and metaphysics, logic and philosophy of language), though with some incursions into practical philosophy (metaethics and applied ethics). They led him to work in different academic environments at the Universities of Geneva, Oxford, New York (NYU), Glasgow, and Neuchâtel. He has taught classes and seminars covering various areas of the discipline (formal logic, moral and political philosophy, metaphysics, epistemology and philosophy of science).

For several years, he has also been teaching translation seminars, as well as an introductory science and technology class, as a lecturer at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting of the University of Geneva.

In the summer of 2025, he joined the Economics, Languages and Education Research Group (Observatoire ÉLF) of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting to work as a scientific collaborator in the Governance of Language Diversity project (GLAD).
