Experimental studies of luminescent materials
related to persistent phosphors
related to persistent phosphors
Currently, the best persistent phosphors are strontium aluminates codoped with Eu2+ and Dy3+. In order to obtain long lasting emissions over hours, the exciting energy must be stored in traps and slowly released again. The entire process is extremely complex, as it involves several energy transfer processes.
In collaboration with RC Tritec, a Swiss company which produces these materials, we have started a project aiming to improve the current materials. Well characterized samples will be subjected to several temperature and pressure-dependent experiments to obtain new informations about some of the energy transfer processes which take place.
