Optical properties of Sm2+ in inorganic lattices
as a function of pressure and temperature
as a function of pressure and temperature
Sm2+-doped crystals and glasses have interesting optical properties. In this project, we study Sm2+ replacing divalent ions such as Sr2+ or Ba2+ in inorganic crystals. The effects of the surroundings on the emission properties are probed by high pressure experiments as well as by chemical substitution. Crystal field parameters can be refined using a program to simulate the energy levels which are compared with the experimental values (iterative routine developed by D. Lovy of our department).
Recent experiments have revealed new Fano-antiresonances in the absorption spectra of Sm2+ in crystals such as SrFCl.
