Vicken Cheterian est titulaire d'un PhD en Histoire et Politique Internationale de l'IUHEI.
 
Il a travaillé sur des conflits armés, génocides, révolutions, mouvements nationalistes, des questions d'Islam politique, de médias et développement ainsi que d'environnement et de sécurité. Il a consulté des organisations internationales et des institutions gouvernementales, comme la DDC, DFAE, UNEP, OHCHR, Banque Mondiale, OSCE, etc. De 2012 à 2014, il fut Research Associate à University of London, School of Oriental and African Studies, et il enseigne aujourd'hui Media et Communication ainsi que Relations Internationales à l'Université Webster.
