Application procedure

 

Call-for-application 

Nearly all candidates enter the program by applying to a published call.

A small number enter differently, when a professor in the program already works with someone and wants to supervise that person’s doctorate. This happens for example with a collaborator on a joint project, or with a candidate who has secured an external scholarship.

If you do not already work with a professor in the program, you must apply to one of the published calls.


Before applying

  1. First of all, make sure that all minimal requirements are met; 
  2. If you do not already have a supervisor,  choose a call from the list that will be posted on our website starting in October; 
  3. Develop your thesis project proposal either based on one of the proposed call or in collaboration with your future thesis advisor at UNIGE;  
  4. Prepare your application file with all required supporting documents;
  5. Submit your application via the UNIGE registration portal: The application portal will open on January 15, 2027, and close on February 1, 2027. 

 

Application guide: step by step

Step 1. Log in

Sign in to the UNIGE registration portal with a SWITCH edu-ID account. Create one first if you do not have it.

Step 2. Create your application

Select the program from the drop-down menus. It is called "Doctorat en Sciences biomédicales, mention Santé Globale", at the Institute of Global Health. The faculty is the Faculty of Medicine, and the start is the autumn semester (2027A), the "semestre d’automne". Then fill in the information requested at each step.

Step 3. Upload the documents

Upload everything listed under Admission requirements. The UNIGE registration conditions page sets out the university’s own requirements for these documents.

Step 4. Pay the registration fee

Applicants who hold a foreign or international secondary school diploma pay a registration fee of 65 CHF, which covers the cost of processing the application.

Step 5. Submit

Click "Submit my application"  

 

Evaluation and outcome

Only complete and eligible applications will be forwarded to the steering committee for evaluation. The steering committee will carefully review all applications and select the most promising ones.

Between May and July 2027, all applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application. If your application is accepted, your file will be forwarded to the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Medicine: admission to the doctoral program is granted by the Dean’s Office based on the steering committee’s advice and recommendation. 

Once admitted by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, you will be able to complete the official enrollment procedures at the University of Geneva so that you can begin your studies in the fall semester of 2027 (September 2027).
