biography

Alice Simniceanu is an epidemiologist at WHO, working on global infectious diseases such as COVID-19. She has experience in health care epidemiology and infection prevention and control. Her work focuses on preventing the spread and control of infectious respiratory diseases, with a particular focus on healthcare settings. 
She has held previous positions working on the COVID-19 response, in infection prevention and control, as well as for the Antimicrobial resistance department, both at WHO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Before coming to Switzerland she has worked in Canada for the federal and provincial government as well as local levels for a university hospital.

WHY IS THIS PHD IMPORTANT FOR ME (FOR MY CAREER , ORGANIZATION OR COUNTRY)?

I have always wanted to deepen my understanding of the global health and epidemiological field in infectious diseases. I believe it will help me advance in both my professional career, as well as improve my skill set for future opportunities.

WHY DID I CHOOSE THIS PHD PROGRAM?  

The possibility to do a PhD while working in the field of global public health at WHO and allowing my work to inform guidelines and policies such as for the the global COVID-19 response is the perfect combination of work and academic studies that I’ve dreamed of.
