Biography

Beth works at Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance in Geneva as a Senior Programme Manager in the High Impact Outbreaks – Vaccine Programmes team. Beth manages a portfolio of vaccines covering Yellow Fever, Multivalent Meningitis, and Japanese Encephalitis across all Gavi-eligible countries, supporting vaccine introductions, campaigns, and outbreak response. She has worked at Gavi for over three years, previously on vaccine forecasting. Before joining Gavi, Beth worked at the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) as a Programme Manager in the Global Vaccines team, primarily across the Asia Pacific region. At CHAI, Beth worked at the intersection of vaccine demand and supply – advising vaccine manufacturers on the development of novel vaccines and supporting country teams and governments on new vaccine introduction planning. Prior to CHAI, they spent two years working with McKinsey, focusing on public and social sector strategy projects, across Europe, USA, and Sub-Saharan Africa.

WHY IS THIS PHD IMPORTANT FOR me (FOR my CAREER , ORGANIZATION OR COUNTRY)?

This PhD provides an opportunity for me to develop more robust analytical skills – including traditional methods such as Linear Regression, and machine learning skills such as Random Forest analyses. The topic is also highly relevant to my professional career, enabling deeper contextual understanding and development of subject-specific expertise, which I can apply through my technical role. More broadly, I hope that the research is useful for colleagues and peers in this field, who are looking to support the development of resilient health systems in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

WHY DID I CHOOSE this PHD PROGRAM?

The ability to work and study in parallel appealed to me as a global health professional with an interest in diving into specific areas in more detail, whilst continuing growing my career. The flexibility offered by the UNIGE PhD has allowed me to progress in my roles at work at the same time as taking academic classes and publishing in well-respected journals. Furthermore, since I'm based in Switzerland, the PhD offered a great opportunity to build a network with other professionals in the global health space through the courses we attend together in-person.
