biography
Zeleke Alebachew is a seasoned epidemiologist with a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. He currently serves as the Senior Tuberculosis and Global Fund Grant Adviser for Ghana under the USAID/Genesis Leap Local Project/Genesis.
With over 15 years of experience, including 8 years at the international level, Zeleke has a robust background in planning and implementing TB programs. His career includes various administrative and technical roles such as:
- Senior Tuberculosis and global fund grant advisor for Ghana
- Ethiopian National TB Prevalence Survey Coordinator (at Ethiopian Public Health Institute)
- Ethiopia HIV Most At-Risk Population Surveillance Coordinator ( at Ethiopian Public Health Institute)
- TB Program Monitoring and Evaluation Advisor (at Ministry of Health of Ethiopia)
- WHO Temporary Advisor to the National TB Prevalence Survey of African countries
He has provided support to countries including Ghana, Ethiopia, Sudan, and Rwanda.
Zeleke has authored or co-authored more than 16 publications and has also served as a university tutor at the University of Gondar, Ethiopia. His expertise encompasses national strategic plan development, grant proposal writing, guideline development, implementation and monitoring of grants, research and publication, and national-level program evaluation.
WHY IS THIS Phd important for me (my career, organization or country)?
Pursuing a PhD in Global Health is a long-awaited ambition of mine as a public health expert. This advanced degree will enhance my leadership and research skills to the highest level, enabling me to address prevailing public health challenges more effectively. The knowledge and skills gained from this program will be instrumental in advancing my career and contributing to the global fight against tuberculosis.

have chosen the PhD program in Global Health at the University of Geneva for several reasons:
- Minimal Onsite Training: The program requires minimal onsite training, allowing me to continue my professional responsibilities while pursuing my studies.
- Focus on Research: The program emphasizes enhancing research knowledge and skills, which are crucial for my role as a senior TB expert. Operational research is a key pillar in ending the TB epidemic, as outlined by the World Health Organization’s End TB Strategy and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
