Dr. Wahid MAJROOH, MD, MSc, MA, MAS


Areas of Expertise

Dr. Majrooh specializes in global health policy, health security, health system design, health systems strengthening/resilience, health diplomacy, leadership in health in fragile settings, politics of global health, humanitarian response, crisis management, strategic communication, international relations, resource mobilization, international security, and geopolitical analysis.

Dr. Wahid Majrooh is the Founder and Executive Director of the Afghanistan Center for Health and Peace Studies (ACHPS), a Geneva based NGO; an Executive-in-Residence Fellow at the Geneva Center for Security Policy (GCSP); and an Academic Fellow at the Geneva Humanitarian Studies Center. In addition, he serves as member of Independent Review Committee of GAVI, an Associate Editor at Conflict and Health Journal, a member of the Board of Trustees at Roshan Afghanistan Online University, dedicated to Afghan women and girls' education, and the President of the Health Tourism Development Center of Islamic Countries.

Dr. Majrooh served as Afghanistan’s Minister of Public Health, leading the health sector through the COVID,19 pandemic and conflict emergency. His tenure focused on strengthening health system resilience, coordinating pandemic response, and mobilizing resources to sustain and expand health service delivery at the time of conflict.

Previously, Dr. Majrooh served as WHO Executive Board Member (2021-2024), Deputy Minister for Healthcare Service Delivery, Senior International Relations Adviser to the Minister of Public Health under the World Bank, International Relations Director and Spokesperson for the Ministry, program advisor with national NGOs, and a Political Specialist at the U.S. Consulate in Afghanistan.

Dr. Majrooh regularly contributes to academic teaching and capacity building. Since 2022, he has served as a guest lecturer and speaker at several academic institutions in Geneva, including Geneva Humanitarian Studies Center, Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), Global Health Institute, University of Geneva (UNIGE), and Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute. He delivers sessions for Master's and PhD programs on topics such as global health diplomacy, health systems in conflict settings, and humanitarian negotiation, health security, politics of global health, health system resilience in fragile settings, and on geopolitics and international related topics.

Dr. Majrooh holds a Medical Doctor (MD) degree and three Master’s degrees, an MSc in Global Health Policy from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), an MA in Political Science, and a MAS in Geopolitics and International Security from the University of Geneva and GCSP. He also holds a diploma in Leadership and International Security from GCSP and a Leadership Development Diploma from the Institute of Leadership Development (ILD).
