Biography

Benedetta is a Public Health professional working as a Senior Researcher at the Department of Cardiovascular, Endocrine-metabolic Diseases and Aging, of the Italian National Institute of Health (ISS). With a medical doctor background and a Masters in Tropical Medicine and Global Health, she is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Global Health at the University of Geneva. Her specific research interests encompass NCDs prevention and management, adolescent health, migrants' health, health policy, and system strengthening. Benedetta is the European Coordinator of the EU4Health Joint Action on Prevention of NCDs – cardiovascular diseases and diabetes – JACARDI. Alongside her responsibilities at ISS, she actively contributes to various groups, including the Global Burden of Disease Study, the Lancet Commission on Gender-Based Violence and Maltreatment of Young People (Italian Case Study), and the Lancet Migration European Hub. She also serves as a Lecturer in Global Health and Global NCDs. Driven by the principle of leaving no one behind, Benedetta is firmly motivated to improve the global health agenda. She dedicates herself to advocating for better health for everyone, everywhere.

Why is this PhD important for me (for my career, organization or country)

Pursuing a Ph.D. in Global Health at the University of Geneva is a fundamental step in advancing my career as a public health professional dedicated to improving global health outcomes. Building on my experience as a medical doctor and Senior Researcher at the Italian National Institute of Health, this Ph.D. will enhance my expertise in NCD prevention, adolescent health, and health system strengthening. It will equip me with the skills needed to develop evidence-based strategies, particularly in my role as Coordinator of the EU4Health Joint Action on NCDs. This Ph.D. will allow me to deepen my expertise in global health, equipping me with advanced research skills and a comprehensive understanding of complex global health challenges. Through my doctoral studies, I aim to contribute to the scientific community by developing innovative approaches to NCD prevention and management, with a particular focus on vulnerable populations. This degree is vital for my goal of influencing health policy and improving health outcomes for populations in vulnerable, ensuring no one is left behind.

Why did I choose this PhD program?

I chose the Ph.D. program in Global Health at Univeristy of Geneva for its flexibility, which allows me to maintain my current role as a Senior Researcher at the Italian National Institute of Health while pursuing my studies. The program's structure enables me to tailor my research to my interests in non-communicable diseases, and adolescent health.
