François Chappuis is a medical doctor specialized in internal medicine and travel & tropical medicine. He holds a master in clinical tropical medicine from the University of Mahidol (Thailand), and a PhD in medical sciences from the University of Antwerp (Belgium). He currently heads the division of tropical and humanitarian medicine (DTHM) of the Geneva University Hospitals. The DTHM focuses on the prevention and care of travellers, including expatriates working abroad for international NGOs, and on the implementation of development and research projects in several African and Asian countries. He has worked for Médecins sans Frontières (MSF) as a field doctor in Somalia and Kenya, and as a medical adviser for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) programmes in Sudan, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and Kenya since 1999. His teaching and research activities focus on NTDs, in particular sleeping sickness, Chagas disease, kala-azar and snake bite.
